SUNDAY SERMON
The sermon on Sunday, January 21, will be on John 1:9-13. This passage teaches us more about Jesus’ purpose and ministry, and his reception by both those who had faith and “his own,” who, “received him not.”
There is some joyous news in this passage: those who did receive him, he gave the right to become children of God!
PRAY
Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer. Here's a helpful pattern to follow (ACTS):
- ADORATION - Praise God for all that he is and all that he had done.
- CONFESSION - Confess your sins to God and trust in the finish work of Christ. Thank him for his forgiveness.
- THANKSGIVING - Thank God for all the many blessings and graces he has shown you.
- SUPPLICATION - Ask your heavenly Father to supply your needs.
QUESTIONS FOR FAITH GROUPS
1. Why did the world not know him and why did his own people not receive him?
2. What does it mean to “believe on his name”?
3. We have been given the right to become “children of God.” What does that mean, and what should be our response to that?
4. What does John mean when he says, “who were born… by the will of God”?
5. Discuss ways we can we share the truths in this passage with our unbelieving friends, family members and neighbors.
