READ

Leviticus 19-20

Psalm 68

WEEKEND REFLECTION

When George Washington fell ill his final time, the doctors who attended to him performed a “treatment” that many during that day thought beneficial. They “bled him”, and they did so three times! It is not clear how much blood they extracted from him in the first two rounds, but the third one was reported to be thirty-two ounces! No wonder that he continued to deteriorate, and the illness proved to be fatal.

If only the physicians would have believed Leviticus 17:11a: the life of the flesh is in the blood!

As we continue reading through Leviticus, the shadows of Christ are everywhere. Several themes are prominent: our sinfulness (and impurity), God’s holiness, and the requirement for atonement. As you read these chapters, let them remind you of Jesus, and his atoning sacrifice for you! For indeed God has… given [blood] for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life (Lev 17:11b).

PRAY

For the month of March 2024 we will be using a portion of Psalm 103 each day to guide our prayers.

Psalm 103:2-5

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Bless the Lord by naming all that he's done for you and thanking him for it.

  • Bless him for forgiving your sin.
  • Bless him for any healing you've experienced in your life, whether physicial, spiritual, emotional, relational, etc.
  • Bless him for redeeming you and saving you for eternal judgment.
  • Bless him for pouring out his steadfast love and mercy upon you in Christ Jesus.
  • Bless him for satisfying your with his goodness, and renewing your strength in him.

Ask the Lord for grace in these areas especially if you struggle in any of them.

You can also take some time to lift up these things in prayer:

  • Confess your sins
  • The Lost
  • The Church
  • The World
  • Your Needs
