Leviticus 8-9

Psalm 62

WEEKEND REFLECTION

This week, we have launched into the book of Leviticus. In several surveys I found online, Leviticus consistently ranks first in the “least favorite book of the Bible” category. But there is glory and wonder here, and I hope we see it as we read through it. Indeed, I pray that we will delight in Leviticus.

Leviticus makes it so plain that sin is addressed by sacrifice. All of the chapters we read this week show that. And Leviticus 8-10 explain the Old Testament priesthood – an “interceding” ministry.

Consider how both concepts find their true substance in Christ. He is the one-time sacrifice for our sin (remember, the last few Sundays we have talked a LOT about the Lamb of God!). And he is the Great High Priest, who ALONE mediates between God and man.

Delight in what you see in Leviticus. By the way, last week, Pastors Mike and Thomas dropped a podcast on Biblical theology. That could be a helpful resource as you read through Leviticus.

PRAY

For the month of March 2024 we will be using a portion of Psalm 103 each day to guide our prayers.

Psalm 103:2-5

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

Bless the Lord by naming all that he's done for you and thanking him for it.

  • Bless him for forgiving your sin.
  • Bless him for any healing you've experienced in your life, whether physicial, spiritual, emotional, relational, etc.
  • Bless him for redeeming you and saving you for eternal judgment.
  • Bless him for pouring out his steadfast love and mercy upon you in Christ Jesus.
  • Bless him for satisfying your with his goodness, and renewing your strength in him.

Ask the Lord for grace in these areas especially if you struggle in any of them.

You can also take some time to lift up these things in prayer:

  • Confess your sins
  • The Lost
  • The Church
  • The World
  • Your Needs
