Exodus 30-31

WEEKEND REFLECTION

It would be good to spend some time reflecting on the readings this week, especially from Exodus. How does what we see in Exodus relate to Jesus Christ?

For example, in Exodus 25, God gave instructions for how to make the Ark of the Covenant. This was to be placed in the Holy of Holies – the most holy room in the Tabernacle. Exodus 25:22 says, “there I will meet with you, and form above the mercy seat on top of the ark, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony…”

Consider how this points to Jesus Christ, and the way Christ reveals God’s presence to us. The mercy seat was where the blood was sprinkled on the Day of Atonement. And that was but a mere shadow; the substance is Christ. Christ’s blood would be shed on the real and final Day of Atonement. And he makes it so that we – those who trust in Christ – can be in the very presence of God. God meets with us there!

Let God, through the Old Testament, focus your heart and mind on Jesus!
