READ

Genesis 45-46

Psalm 27

WEEKEND REFLECTION

We read Psalm 23 on Tuesday. This is, perhaps, the most celebrated and well-known psalm in the Bible. Note that in this psalm there are 3 images, each followed by a declaration.

The three images are 1) the image of a shepherd and his sheep (v.1-4), and 2) a banquet table (v.5a), and an anointing with oil (v.5b). Each image shows the loving care of God in the face of difficult circumstances (e.g., walking through the valley of the shadow of death, in the presence of enemies, etc.). The point is that God leads, protects, sustains and blesses amid difficult times. What a wonderful comfort that should be to our souls!

The Psalmist’s resulting declarations should be the way that we respond to these wonderful truths. 1) I shall not want. 2) I will fear no evil. And, 3) I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Ponder this Psalm today. How do we read this in light of the gospel of Jesus Christ? How does it bring encouragement and comfort to your situation? How can you encourage others with these truths?

PRAY

Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer. Here's a helpful pattern to follow (ACTS):

  • ADORATION - Praise God for all that he is and all that he had done.
  • CONFESSION - Confess your sins to God and trust in the finish work of Christ. Thank him for his forgiveness.
  • THANKSGIVING - Thank God for all the many blessings and graces he has shown you.
  • SUPPLICATION - Ask your heavenly Father to supply your needs.
