Daily Worship - Weekend, 11/25-11/26/2023
Last week, Pastor Mike walked us through 2 Corinthians 4:13-15, and there we saw that it is God’s grace that increases our thanksgiving, and thanksgiving increases God’s glory. We even saw a surprising link between missions and thanksgiving!
This Sunday, Pastor Dave will teach Philippians 4:6-7, and connect thanksgiving with the anxiety-defeated peace of Christ. As we will see in that passage, it is not possible to have hearts full of thanksgiving AND anxiety. One seems to push the other out. And when we pray with thanksgiving we enjoy the peace of God, which surpasses understanding.
What are some ways that you desire to grow in thanksgiving? How will you pursue this, practically?
Pray for the Faith Groups ministries of the church. Pray for growth in participation, and growth in community among those who do participate. Pray for fruitfulness and spiritual growth.
grow: new city catechism Q&A 12
What does God require in the ninth and tenth commandments?
Ninth, that we do not lie or deceive, but speak the truth in love. Tenth, that we are content, not envying anyone or resenting what God has given them or us.
discuss: questions for faith groups
Discuss the role thanksgiving plays in our hearts as we relate to God. How is God glorified in us when we are thankful? What does ingratitude say about us, as it pertains to our relationship with God? How can we encourage one another in thanksgiving in times of trial and suffering? Since thanksgiving is contagious, spend some time as a group sharing about the things for which you are thankful!
We Give Thanks (Psalm 107) is a song of thanksgiving to God for his steadfast love and salvation. Praise God this morning for what he's done in your life as you sing the words of this song.
