SUNDAY SERMON
The sermon for Sunday, September 15 is from John 4:1-15. Read this account of the “Samaritan Woman at the Well” to prepare you heart for the preaching of God’s Word.
PRAY
For the month of September in our Daily Worship we will be praying through our Five Loves during the week and our Mission and Vision statements on the weekend.
To honor God by making more disciples for Jesus Christ and equipping them for growth and service.
The word “disciple” means “follower.” To be a Christian is to be a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, seeking, by grace, to become more like him. As we proclaim the gospel, we desire to see more and more people believing in and following Jesus Christ. By equipping them for growth and service, our hope is that these disciples will, in turn, make more disciples.
- Pray that God would grow our culture of discipleship at Faith.
- If you’re discipling others right now, pray for them. Ask God to continue to grow them in their faith and lift up any needs you know of.
- If you’re being discipled by someone, pray for that person. Ask God to encourage and grow him or her in faith and love.
- If you’re not discipling someone else or being discipled, ask God to open the doors for these kinds of relationships. Seek God’s wisdom as to how to go about this.
- Ask that God would equip you to grow and serve him.
QUESTIONS FOR FAITH GROUPS
- Describe the disconnect between what Jesus was telling this woman in verses 1-15, and what she perceived him to be saying. Why was this so?
- Why does she ask if Jesus is greater than Jacob?
- How does this water satisfy our thirst forever? What does this mean practically in our spiritual lives?
- What was wrong with her final response, in verse 15?
- What can we learn from this conversation about Jesus’ love for the nations, and his love for individuals like this woman?
