Weekend Reflection
“…as he had done previously.” – Daniel 6:10c
We finished the amazing book of Daniel this week. So much we could say about God’s grace and protection and providence through the Babylonian exile. For our encouragement this weekend, though, let’s focus in on one small phrase at the end of Daniel 6:10. Daniel went up to pray “as he had done previously.” This little phrase helps us to see that Daniel was “the real deal”. He deeply loved God, and was disciplined in his prayer life. Of course, Daniel’s enemies used this daily discipline as a means to entrap him. Even so, this practice undoubtedly prepared Daniel for the trial that awaited him. He could be in a den of lions, and safely trust and hope in the Lord.
That is what we are doing together, and what these daily Bible readings are all about: making time with the Lord our daily habit. The Lord will use this time to prepare us for the trials of life with our hope solidly in God.
PRAY
Romans 12:2
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Pray that God would keep you from sin and guard you from the temptations of the world. Ask God to help you be a witness for Christ in the midst of an evil and sinful world and that he would use you to tell others who are lost about Christ. Ask him to renew your mind daily that you would be captivated by the beauty of Christ above all earthly things.
You can also take some time bring these things before the Lord.
- Confess your sins.
- The Lost
- The Church
- Your Needs
your life. Ask him to guard you against the temptations of Satan, the flesh, and the world.
