READ
Weekend Reflection
This week, we read Psalm 94 again. Verse 12 says, “Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O Lord…”
For many, this seems like a contradiction. A man under the discipline of God is blessed! Discipline, for sure, does not feel like a blessing. It hurts to be disciplined. But the Psalmist seems to think that that man, though hurt by the disciplining hand of God is “happy”. How so?
Hebrews 12:5-11 explains this. If God is disciplining us, it is because he loves us, he is treating us as sons, it is so that we might live, it is for our good, it helps us to share in his holiness, and it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
So that person is happy! God’s discipline is a kindness towards us, not a punishment. Be trained by it!
PRAY
Romans 12:2
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Pray that God would keep you from sin and guard you from the temptations of the world. Ask God to help you be a witness for Christ in the midst of an evil and sinful world and that he would use you to tell others who are lost about Christ. Ask him to renew your mind daily that you would be captivated by the beauty of Christ above all earthly things.
You can also take some time bring these things before the Lord.
- Confess your sins.
- The Lost
- The Church
- Your Needs
your life. Ask him to guard you against the temptations of Satan, the flesh, and the world.
