Weekend Reflection

This week we read the famous account of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being thrown into the fiery furnace. We should zoom in on one statement that these three bold men, whose faith was in God, said to Nebuchadnezzar. In Daniel 3:17 they confess their faith that God is able to deliver them from the king. But then, in verse 18, they say this:  “But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

God is able to rescue us, but even if he doesn’t we won’t worship idols. Isn’t that amazing?!? They make a theological statement: God can easily save us from you, king. And then they shared their resolve to follow God no matter what: even if God, in his wisdom, decides not to do this, we will still worship only God.

What a model of trust in God! In every trial, we can say with these three that God is able to spare us and rescue us and protect us, but even if he doesn’t, he is worthy of our worship. Trust in him like this!

PRAY

Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer using part of The Lord's Prayer as a model.

"AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL." - Seek God's guidance in every aspect of your life. Ask him to guard you against the temptations of Satan, the flesh, and the world.
