Weekend Reflection
Why do we seek God’s blessing? Why do we pray for him to be gracious to us, and make his face shine upon us? Do we pray this for our own good?
Yes, of course we do. But not only (or even mainly) for our own good. In Psalm 67, the psalmist prays for God’s grace and his blessing and favor, and he gives a reason for this request. Psalm 67:2 is the reason: that your way may be known on earth, your saving power among all nations. He wanted God’s blessing to bless others, by displaying God’s way and saving power to them.
The ultimate reason we seek God’s grace and blessing is so that God might be magnified in us. So that the nations would even know his saving power.
Let’s be careful to see God’s blessing to us in that way. It is for our good, for sure. God loves us. But it is ultimately for the glory of God among all nations.
PRAY
Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer using part of The Lord's Prayer as a model.
"AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL." - Seek God's guidance in every aspect of your life. Ask him to guard you against the temptations of Satan, the flesh, and the world.
