Weekend Reflection
Therefore the LORD waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the LORD is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.” – Isaiah 30:18
How can God at once be “a God of justice” and a God who “waits to be gracious to you…” and one who “exalts himself to show mercy to you…”? Isn’t it either-or, not both-and? Either he insists on justice or he insists on showing grace and mercy. How can God do both at the same time and still be just (and still be merciful)? The gospel, that is how!
A God of justice judges sin. And yet, God is a God who exalts to show mercy. And both of these aspects of God come together in the gospel. Jesus Christ perfectly satisfied God’s justice on your behalf (if you are trusting in him!). Your sin went to him. And God’s mercy went to you.
Ponder the sweetness of the gospel this Advent season. Our God of justice is a God who loves to show grace and mercy. And he has done so in Jesus.
PRAY
Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer using part of The Lord's Prayer as a model.
"AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL." - Seek God's guidance in every aspect of your life. Ask him to guard you against the temptations of Satan, the flesh, and the world.
