WEEKEND REFLECTION
“All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord, and all your saints shall bless you!” – Psalm 145:10
What does it mean to bless the Lord? There is a hint in the Greek translation of the Old Testament (the Septuagint). The word for ‘bless’ is eulogeo, from which we get the English word ‘eulogy’. And what is a eulogy? A eulogy is when friends and family speak well of a loved one.
This is what is meant in Psalm 145:10. “All of your saints shall speak bless you – they will speak well of you.”
Oh, let’s speak well of the Lord this week. Speak well of God’s many blessings to you and your family, this Thursday! Consider the goodness of God in your life. Make a list of things for which you are thankful. And then speak them! Tell your family how good the Lord has been to you. Tell other Christians. Tell both unbelieving and believing family and friends around the Thanksgiving festivities this year. Tell your neighbors. Bless the Lord. That is what the saints do. We bless the Lord.
PRAY
Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer. Here's a helpful pattern to follow (ACTS):
- ADORATION - Praise God for all that he is and all that he had done.
- CONFESSION - Confess your sins to God and trust in the finish work of Christ. Thank him for his forgiveness.
- THANKSGIVING - Thank God for all the many blessings and graces he has shown you.
- SUPPLICATION - Ask your heavenly Father to supply your needs.
