Psalm 99

WEEKEND REFLECTION

Isn’t the book of Esther amazing?!? There is not a single direct mention of God in the book of Esther, yet God’s fingerprints are on every verse of this account. And that is the point.

Take, for example, Mordecai’s exhortation to Esther for her to act on behalf of her people. Mordecai says (in Esther 4:14), “And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

He is directly implying that perhaps the reason she has been exalted to her position as queen is because God put her there for such a time as this. God, in his providence, was acting to save his people through Esther, and this warranted fearless action, which is exactly what Esther does. She knew the risks (“If I perish, I perish”) but her life and the outcome of all of it, was in the hands of our sovereign God.

Isn’t it comforting to know that God’s fingerprints are on every moment of our lives. We can trust in his good providence.

PRAY

Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer. Here's a helpful pattern to follow (ACTS):

  • ADORATION - Praise God for all that he is and all that he had done.
  • CONFESSION - Confess your sins to God and trust in the finish work of Christ. Thank him for his forgiveness.
  • THANKSGIVING - Thank God for all the many blessings and graces he has shown you.
  • SUPPLICATION - Ask your heavenly Father to supply your needs.
