Weekend Reflection
When we face hard situations, we normally go one of two ways: we either go the way of grumbling or we go the way of lament. Grumbling is what the Israel did in the wilderness when they lacked food or water or became bored with God’s provision for them. They grumbled; they turned from the Lord in their complaint. Grumbling is sinful and leads us away from faith and hope in God, and towards bitterness.
Lament, on the other hand, is when we turn to the Lord with our complaint. It is not sinful. It is casting our cares on him, knowing that he cares for us. In the end, lament leads us to greater trust and hope in God, and to worship. An example of this is Psalm 13, from our reading this week. In Psalm 13, in just a few verses, David goes from, “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?” to “I will sing to the Lord for he has dealt bountifully with me.”
When we face hard situations, let us turn to the Lord, not away from him. If we do, we might end up singing to the Lord!
PRAY
Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer using part of The Lord's Prayer as a model.
"AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL." - Seek God's guidance in every aspect of your life. Ask him to guard you against the temptations of Satan, the flesh, and the world.
