Weekend Reflection
Warnings, though sometimes hard to hear, can be very helpful for us. In fact, biblical warnings can be a means of God’s grace to us, to keep us from falling into sin or running after false gods.
Jeremiah is full of such warnings. But many in his own day, would not hear or heed Jeremiah’s warnings. And Jeremiah had a warning about that too! Jeremiah 7:8 says, “Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail.” Some, while claiming to be prophets, preached a very different message than Jeremiah. While Jeremiah was preaching warning of God’s judgement for idolatry, they were preaching peace and acceptance of false worship. Jeremiah’s warning: don’t listen to deceptive words.
There are many deceptive words preached today, attempting to soften the Bible’s warnings, teachings, and moral standards (etc.). We must not listen to them. We must hear Jeremiah’s warning.
Don’t trust in deceptive words to no avail! Trust God’s Word.
PRAY
Take some time to commune with the Lord in prayer using part of The Lord's Prayer as a model.
"AND LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL." - Seek God's guidance in every aspect of your life. Ask him to guard you against the temptations of Satan, the flesh, and the world.
