Weekend Reflection

A man once decided to check into a hotel room for 7 days to rest. But when he got to his room, he realized right away that he didn’t like the decor and would need to show the place a little “TLC”. The man spent a day repainting and upgrading the window dressings. And then he took a day to remove the “popcorn” texture from the ceiling and applying fresh paint up there. Of course, then the carpet looked old. So, he spent a day and a lot of $$ recarpeting the room. The bathroom décor screamed “1980’s”, so he spent the next three-days and lots more $$ redoing everything, replacing tile, the vanity, tub, etc. Phew, he was glad that was done. He took about half a day to clean up from all the work, and then he was ready to rest. And rest he did, for several hours… until he had to check out and leave everything behind.

How foolish that would be, right? Just as it is foolish for us to make this world our treasure. As Jesus says in Matthew 6:19, “where our treasure is, there our heart is also.” This life is temporary. Don’t spend all of your efforts making the hotel room of life look great, only to have to checkout and leave it all behind. Treasure what is forever! Treasure Christ.

PRAY

Romans 12:2

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Pray that God would keep you from sin and guard you from the temptations of the world. Ask God to help you be a witness for Christ in the midst of an evil and sinful world and that he would use you to tell others who are lost about Christ. Ask him to renew your mind daily that you would be captivated by the beauty of Christ above all earthly things.
