Common Issues For Which to Seek Biblical Counseling
Marriage Difficulties
Parenting Problems
Habitual Sin Patterns
Emotional Issues (e.g. anger, anxiety, depression, etc.)
What is Biblical Counseling
Biblical counseling is the Christ-centered, church-based ministry of the Word of God to believers. It is rooted in the authority and sufficiency of God’s Word (2 Tim. 3:16-17) and depends upon the Holy Spirit to bring about lasting change.
The Goal of Biblical Counseling is to humbly and compassionately apply God’s sufficient Word to the needs of the counselee, to offer hope and help in their time of need (1 Thess. 5:14), and to equip people to love God and to love others biblically amid their difficult circumstances (Matt. 22:35-40).
Qualified Counselors
Biblical counselors at FBF are trained to use the Bible as their authority and the source for methodology in counseling. While the counselors are either ACBC certified, in progress of this certification, or pastors of our church, they are not licensed through the state of South Dakota.
What to Expect
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is an important aspect of the counseling process. We will carefully guard the information you entrust to us to the fullest extent possible. There are times, however, when it may be necessary for us to share certain information with others. Ex:
Seeking advice from another pastor or counselor in regards to the counseling issue (Prov. 11:14).
Self-harm or the harm of another person.
Cases of abuse or neglect (Rom. 13:1-7).
When an observer sits in on the counseling session to observe the counselor for training purposes.
Church Discipline (see Mat. 18).
Relational Issues
Weekly Assignments
Your counselor may assign further studying and reading to help you implement the instruction and hope given in the counseling session.
Engaging the Church Body
While the majority of the counseling process takes place with your counselor, you are encouraged to be involved in the life of the church weekly. We believe spiritual growth and changes require consistent involvement with the christian community/local church.
Length of Counseling
Counseling sessions can range from 1-1.5 hours. Depending on the counselor and your schedule, you may meet weekly or every other week. As for the duration of the counseling process, you may expect to meet with your counselor anywhere from 10-15+ sessions depending on the reason you are seeking counseling. Please be aware that we believe that you are not meant to be in counseling indefinitely and therefore you and your counselor will work towards the graduation of counseling, as the issues you came in for are resolved.
Waitlist
Due to the limited number of counselors, you may be placed upon a waitlist. Once you submit the counseling request form, our Admin will call you in 1-3 business days with the next steps forward.
Cost
Because we believe this is a ministry of the church, counseling is free to regular attenders of the church.
